What do you think Carter's future should hold? There's a poll, and I've linked to it.

Here’s a link for the poll S.A.R.A.H.’s running. http://www.vizu.com/poll-vote.html?n=121250

I voted. More than once. :-)

If you’ve watched From Fear to Eternity, you know that Carter was fired. So how did I vote in the poll?

I think Carter should be reinstated. So, I voted Yes. Although there are lots of great plot opportunities for the show if he doesn’t, I like him as the sheriff. Do you think Carter would he have to leave Eureka if he weren’t reinstated? What role would he have in the town?

I’ve thought about this a little bit. He could be a detective, like Monk, freelance but essentially working directly for the local sheriff’s department. Only… Carter isn’t a Monk.

He could be a resident of the town. On several previous episodes, Zoe has revealed a flair for doing well in the Eureka school Tesla. But his role would be greatly diminished.

I don’t really think any of this will happen, because I happen to believe he will eventually be reinstated in some capacity as a law enforcement official in Eureka.

Anyway, I’m definitely interested in your ideas of what Carter would do if he weren’t sheriff, if you care to share!

So far, I have several favorites as far as tracks go. Allison’s Theme is sweet and lovely, and I adore the music from Noche De Sueños, The Mask of Fargo. Another favorite is Let’s Get Hitched, from Sight Unseen. There are a few more tracks that I like a lot, but I’ll detail them when I have time to talk about it more.

Not all Eureka's residents are new to science! I attempt to Name that Crossover.

Let’s see, I’ve been a huge fan of Eureka from the beginning, hence the creation of this website (insert entirely appropriate duh here). I’m sure it’s not a surprise though that I’m also a fan of several other science fiction tv shows and I can’t help but notice when actors from one show appear on the other.

Most notably to me, I love it when my Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis cast show up on Eureka.

Dr. Daniel Jackson suddenly morphs into Christopher Dactylos in the season 2 episode “All that Glitters.” From selfless to selfish, the contrasts between these two characters isn’t as great as one might expect. Both men are obsessive, driven workaholics (apparently). And although I love Dr. Jackson dearly, I must admit that he’s fond of speeches and drawn out explanations. Christopher got to speechify plenty.

Earlier in season 2, eyeglass wearing Dr. Radek Zelenka became Steven Whiticus in the episode “Unpredictable.” Steven lost the accent but the vision problems remain as Steven Whiticus suffers from a severe and debilitating light sensitivity that makes it impossible for him to leave his home.

Dr. Janet Fraiser, beloved heroine, visited Eureka as Diane Lancaster and showed the science-minded Eurekan’s that “God Is In the Details.” Her desire to be reunited with her recently deceased husband has kept her researching for a way to be with him again, and she’s found it by creating a possible doorway to an infinite multiverse. Janet Fraiser lives on in one of those dimensions.

Following in Dr. Fraiser’s footsteps in more ways than one, Dr. Lam drops in as Dr. Anne Young to teach Jack, Jo, and the rest of Global Dynamics’s workforce a few things about sexual harassment. Of course, that’s just the beginning as every woman near Jack turns into a “Maneater”—talk about your sexual harassment! In the same episode, Nyan puts in an appearance as the missing Dr. Stone. And who would have guessed? Dr. Young turns out to be a dog-lover in “Best in Faux.”

Whew! I’m sure there are more crossover events in Eureka that I’ve missed. Feel free to leave a comment and mention anyone I’ve overlooked!

My confidence has been shaken, and now I'm going to have to rewatch some Tag-centric Eureka episodes to get my game back on!

Alrighty then, I did not know Jim Taggart as well as I thought I did! I only got 8 of 10 right and it was the last two that messed me up. Alas, I’ve let my Taggart skills get rusty and now I’m going to have to rewatch some Tag-centric episodes to get back up to speed on this missing-in-action character. The good news—don’t keep reading if your definition of spoilers is very broad—is that there are rumors that say Tag is coming back in the second half of season three (from the Eureka Panel at Comic Com back in July) {See this comment}.

Here’s my ranking. Can you beat my score? :-) Give it a go, I’ll bet you’ll do all right.

Eureka's music is spot on perfect for the show, and the Eureka Soundtrack has just been released so you can get your own copy.

I love the music of Eureka, and I’ve always thought the music on SCIFI’s Battlestar Galactica is fantastic. When I got the following press release about the recently released Eureka Soundtrack (included below), I was very interested to read that the same person scores the music for both shows.

Eureka Soundtrack
Release date:
September 2
Get your own copy

EUREKA!!! LA-LA LAND RECORDS HAS FOUND IT!

Soundtrack For Eureka, Composed by Bear McCreary, To Be Released By La-La Land Records.

(August 14, 2007- Burbank, CA) – The soundtrack from SciFi Channel’s popular television series, Eureka, will be released by La-La Land Records on August 19, 2008. Composer Bear McCreary, who also scores the hit series’ Battlestar Galactica and Terminator – The Sarah Connor Chronicles, composes the score for Eureka.

Composer Bear McCreary is one of the top young composers working in Hollywood. His work on the television series Battlestar Galactica has been described as offering “some of the most innovative music on TV today,” by Variety, and his blog www.bearmccreary.com/blog, which features in-depth inside looks at the process of scoring Battlestar Galactica, was called “one of the best blogs in the business. It’s a fascinating look at the process of making music for film and television and the care he takes with aligning the score with the twists and turns of each character’s plot lines,” by The Hollywood Reporter.

Bear McCreary’s feature film credits include Wrong Turn 2 and the Rest Stop films. He also scores the hit series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles for Fox. McCreary was among a handful of select protégés of late film music legend Elmer Bernstein (The Magnificent Seven) and is a classically trained composer with degrees in Composition and Recording Arts from the prestigious USC Thornton School of Music.

A car accident leads U.S. Marshal Jack Carter into the top-secret Pacific Northwest town of Eureka…

As World War II came to a close with mushroom clouds over Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the impact that science and technology would have on the continued security of our world became catastrophically apparent. With the help of Albert Einstein and other trusted advisors, President Harry S. Truman commissioned a top-secret residential development in a remote area of the Pacific Northwest, one that would serve to protect and nurture America’s most valuable intellectual resources. There our nation’s greatest thinkers, the über-geniuses working on the next era of scientific achievement, would be able to live and work in a supportive environment.

Thus, the town of Eureka was born. But for all of its familiar, small-town trappings, things in this secret hamlet are anything but ordinary. The stereotype of the absent-minded professor exists for a reason, and most of the quantum leaps in science and technology during the past 50 years were produced by Eureka’s elite researchers. Unfortunately, scientific exploration is rarely what one expects, and years of experiments gone awry have yielded some peculiar by-products. From unrequited love to professional jealousy, from addiction to depression, the problems of Eureka’s townsfolk stem from life’s myriad of everyday challenges. But with the population’s unique talents, troubled psyches and limitless resources, these small-town concerns have a way of becoming big-time problems. It is at that intersection, where human frailty and super-science collide, that Eureka begins….

Eureka is as much a quirky character study as a sci fi show. McCreary reflects that in the score. “My approach for the score was to leave the crazy Sci Fi elements alone. I wanted the music to underscore the character relationships, and the small-town setting. As a result, the score has an intimate, warm tone blended with folky-blue-grass riffs.”

But the town of Eureka is no regular town in middle America. “Because this is no ordinary small town, there are, of course, some oddities in the ensemble.” McCreary describes, “In addition to the woodwinds, strings and guitars, I layered in 80s and 90s synthesizer textures, inspired by the 8-bit and 16-bit video game consoles of my youth. So, the score could best be described as chamber-orchestra meets blue-grass / zydeco meets 80s-new-wave meets Super Mario Brothers… if that makes any sense at all. Besides, it finally gave me an excuse to play lots of accordion, which is my main instrument!”

The third season of Eureka began airing on Sci Fi on July 29th. The Eureka soundtrack will be available in stores or from www.lalalandrecords.com on August 19, 2008. Also available from La-La Land Records are the soundtracks for Battlestar Galactica Season One, Season Two, Season Three and Wrong Turn 2, also composed by Bear McCreary. La-La Land Records will be releasing the soundtracks for Terminator – The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Rest Stop 2 later this year.

The Scifi Channel's Made in Eureka humor. Oh, and videos...

So I was looking around the Eureka site at Scifi to see what goodness I could get into and I came across Made in Eureka. The site has videos spoofing those late night infomercials, only these are selling products you could only find in Eureka. The Tooth Bomb commercial is cute, but the one for Fat Fizz is even better!

However, my favorite of the Made in Eureka videos is the Verminator commercial.
