It's not long until Eureka premieres the rest of the season three episodes. I'm excited!

I’m looking forward to Eureka’s return. Not the least of which to see how the show is going to go forward after the shocking changes that were introduced at the mid-season break.

With Carter out of a job, and Allison pregnant with Stark’s baby, the show has opened itself up for some interesting stories.

Also, there’s been Eureka news and spoilers that excite me that are unrelated to the mid-season ending episodes. I want to see how Carter handles another relationship for a while, because after thinking about it, I really want to see a break between him and Allison.

After Stark’s death (or not), I don’t think I’ll like it if Allison is ready to jump into another relationship too soon. I’m also hoping to see Stark again, and if I were to get my way, that would put a damper on anything happening between Allison and Carter.

So, I’m not too disappointed to see the show moving away from a strictly Carter / Allison pairing.

What about you? Missing the spark already, or will you be happy to see something different?

Just an update of what's been updated on the site. :-)

I’ve updated the rumors and spoilers page with the news of a possible episode title for the tenth episode in season three. I’m looking forward to the return of Eureka after its mid-season break, but so far, I’ve found no dates for when that will be. I did get a hint from the Eureka Unscripted blog, but just a hint. I also spent the day watching a few videos, including the Comic Con video of the Eureka panel this year. I picked up a tidbit from it that updated another rumor—the one having to do with Carter’s possible future love life. No details here, because I’ve already written about it there. :-) Just follow the links and you’ll find all the details plus links to take you there if you want to watch or read for yourself.

Oh, and I updated the news and articles page with a link to the video tribute to Nathan Stark where the cast discusses Ed Quinn’s departure from Eureka.

Since those are just static pages on the site, feel free to leave any comments about them on this post! I love talking about Eureka and its people!

Here Come the Suns might have gone a Degree too far, but I loved it anyway

More wordplay graces the title of this episode, but that’s the usual with Eureka these days. I like it and I liked the big twist in this one.

In Here Come the Suns, it’s election time in Eureka. There’s been no mayor for months, and they’re ready to vote someone into office. Since it’s Eureka, it’s not a stretch to note that there aren’t any age limits on candidates, so the hopeful politicians include Zoe’s boyfriend Lucas. Vincent and Paul Herrera round out the list. Zoe gets so caught up trying to insure Lucas’s success that she ignores her science parter, who is forced to work alone on their science project.

When a second sun pops up into the sky, the heat is on.

Here Come the Suns is a great episode and I loved it, but that’s not to say I don’t have something to say about it. :-)

Lexi Carter has taken her place as a regular in this episode. She’s been as prominent, if not more so, than Henry Deacon in the last few episodes and in this one, she’s pivotal–and it has something to do with Henry. I just wished I liked her more. She seems kind of like a silly addition to the show. I love the show and I love the people of Eureka. So far there hasn’t been anyone I would like to see gone, with the notable exception of Eva Thorne, and I’m hoping that won’t be too far into the future.

With Lexi, my problem is that she’s not that fun to watch. She kind of depresses me. I don’t know if that was the intention–that Lexi become a grounding force that takes the extraordinary and makes it boring, but I sort of doubt that was the goal. However, they’ve done just that. Lexi is pregnant. She’s alone. Her laughter seems forced and her situation seems grim. Not to mention that her missing boyfriend, who hasn’t been told about his future child/children, is being done a terrible disservice. Maybe that’s the entire problem with Lexi. She’s not someone I can relate to. Her choices seem…childish. She needs to grow up and she’s competing with Zoe as the teen in need of guidance.

I’ll just have to keep watching and have faith that Eureka’s creators understand this and plan to grow Lexi.

Now Zane on the other hand, I adore. However, I think there’s trouble to come between him and Jo Lupo. That relationship would certainly be on the skids if Jo were able to see the look on Zane’s face when she made certain serious overtures toward him. No secretive smile from him–he wants to run away. That’s the only way I can describe that look. So look out Jo! Maybe you’ll decide Tag’s the better man after all!

I think this episode marks the tipping point for Degree. Cute and funny is quickly turning sour. Though we might finally be over the biggest part of the commercial hump with this episode. I found the following comments about the product placement and it’s especially relevant because it looks as though this was “the big one.”

It all began way back in October 2007 when the Sci Fi Channel announced to the Eureka staff that…we would have an official commercial sponsor this season, one that was kicking in a lot of dough and would therefore…require tons of product placement throughout Season Three. We were also told that…ONE EPISODE in Season Three would have to incorporate a storyline in which the actual product HAD to save Eureka somehow, or at the very least, be INDISPENSABLE to Carter’s Act 5 solve….“Here Comes the Suns”…would become that episode.

Ellipses are skipped parts, so if you want to see what I cut out, read the blog post by Eric Wallace, the episode’s writer.

What some others thought of Here Come the Suns

What's coming for Eureka with only three episodes to go before the mid-season break?

With only a few episodes to go, and one of those scheduled to air tomorrow night (Phased and Confused), it’s not unusual for me to go looking for spoilers. I have a habit of getting nervous when it comes to season enders, even if those enders are only mid-season. The show won’t be back until after the start of 2009 so I was looking for a bit of a heads up on what’s coming next for the people of Eureka.

Nathan Stark

After the loss of Nathan Stark, I don’t know what I’m worried about. Surely nothing could be more shocking or disturbing than to lose a great character like that. But then I found a tantalizing tidbit of news called Eureka: More Shocks Coming at SCI FI Wire.

“The agenda of the Fixer [guest star Frances Fisher] will come to light,” Paglia promised. “There will be some changes in the roles of the people in our town again. Some big endings and some new beginnings. There will definitely be a cliffhanger aspect to the end of episode eight. And then we’ll dive into episode nine in the back 13 of this season with some big, big questions to resolve.”

Paglia is Jaime Paglia, the show’s creator, so I think he knows what he’s talking about—or I should say I hope he does.

He also says that the first eight episodes of the season (Season 3) are some of the “biggest…in terms of the science of it” and that they’ll “be paying for that in the back 13.”

I don’t mind that, as long they keep the fun in the episodes!

I do wonder about the “big endings” and “new beginnings” though. I sure hope this doesn’t mean another character is on his (or her) way out!

What about you?

I had to do it. I listened to the Eureka podcast for I Do Over. In the podcast “Eureka Episode 304 Commentary,” episode writer Thania St. John says, “Stark succeeded…. His photons moved back as well and ended up dissipating into the universe.”

Bummer.

I had it all worked out how Nathan Stark wasn’t moving forward in time like the rest of Eureka—so the backwards part I get. I also understand that since Stark wasn’t bathed in the Indigo Light, he wouldn’t be returning to the normal flow of time when he pushed the button to reset the out-of-sync photon that started the whole time loop. There were consequences and he suffered them.

I figured he might be in an alternate time-line somewhere doing just fine. I was sure the day would come when he would show up at some inopportune time to wreak havoc on whatever Carter was up to with Allison. I guess I was wrong. He dissipated. He is gone, dead, destroyed, ended, nonexistent. He is one with the universe. And there’s just a little bit of him left in that logic diamond of Ally’s for the rest of them—us—to mourn over.

Although…this is Eureka. It’s certainly not beyond the realm of possibility someone will invent something that’ll pull all of Nathan’s scattered photons back into a cohesive unit and bring Nathan Stark back to life.

Until then. :-)

One guy I’ve been missing lately is the unique and colorful Jim Taggart, fondly known as Tag. Some of my favorite episodes have included Tag’s Australian accent, his hiking boots and hunting vest, his nude form and his obsession with Lojack, the dog that first put in an appearance in the 2-hour premiere.

Taggart is Eureka’s biological containment specialist and working veterinarian and he would have been a great asset to have around in Show Me the Mummy and even What About Bob?, and yet he never appeared. Season three of Eureka has been entirely Tag-less.

With Taggart’s fondness for mechanical animals (think geese from Duck, Duck Goose — Season 2), I imagine he would have had an awesome biomimetic dog for Eureka’s dog show (think Best in Faux — Season 3), but he never put in an appearance.

I spent some time searching online, but all I could really come up with was the fact that Jim Taggart’s actor Matt Frewer spent quite a bit of time last year working on the Canadian drama Intelligence. I’ve never heard of the show before now, but then again, I’m not Canadian and it’s not scifi.

What it comes down to is that the Eureka writers might have just eased Taggart out of the series. Although I would love to have the show address what has happened to Jim Taggart (because I haven’t noticed yet that they have), I’m afraid Tag is gone for good.

When I watch Eureka, I’m looking for the unique mixture of science and fiction that has always made up the show in the past. The first episode was based on the premise of a messed up time machine, followed by an episode about cloning.

There’s been the virus shows and the artifact shows, shows about genetics and a great many shows about out of control technology. Now we’re venturing into the monster shows. First that was What About Bob?, now there’s been Show Me the Mummy.

What About Bob? might have technically been a genetics episode, but the title guy, Bob, could have been Voyager’s Tom Paris. Tom just happened to devolve (or was it evolve?) into a lizard. The episode was Threshold and it wasn’t one of my favorites. I’m a forgiving viewer. If I like a show I’ll let it get away with just about anything… But that’s not to say I don’t raise my eyebrows and wonder what the heck the show-runners are thinking.

I actually liked What About Bob? but Show Me the Mummy didn’t make my list of can’t-miss episodes. You might think it was the Mummy I objected to, but it wasn’t. The bugs bugged me.

No, that isn’t even right. The bugs didn’t bother me until the music entered the picture. I have no problem believing the frequency of Lexi’s music could have attracted the bugs, but to believe that it was possible to round up every last bug in that freezer in a one shot deal just boggles my mind. So, an otherwise interesting episode lost a lot of luster for me right then and I downgraded my rating from a 4/5, possible 5/5, to a 3/5.

I hope Show Me the Mummy is the last organic/biological villain show we have for a while. I do like monster shows, but I prefer technology over biology any day!

The next episode to appear on Scifi’s schedule is Phased and Confused. The title inspires me to speculate wonderful things. :-)

Eureka's writers are evil--but not for the reasons you might think!

Okay, so technically, if you want to know what makes the world go ’round, you need to visit Space.com. This link gives a good explanation.

If, like me, you’re still worrying over Nathan Stark’s future in Eureka, you might want to read an interesting blog post about the issue.

One of the series writers has written a post entitled “Goodbye, Nathan” that sums it all up nicely. I particularly appreciate knowing that the writers aren’t stupid–they didn’t write Nathan Stark out of the show of their own accord. That’s great news as far as I’m concerned. I can much better understand why they let him go out the way he did, because he was a strong character and I loved the strong ending for him.

Now, all that said, I’ve decided this particular Eureka writer is evil. Just look at this bit from the post.

And now for the answer to the only question you probably care about right now—Is Stark Really Dead?—the answer is YES.

For now.

Why would he say this after thoroughly explaining why Nathan Stark will not be coming back?

Huh?

That’s what I thought. He’s evil. He wants me to hope Nathan will return–or he’s setting me up for Nathan’s return, because maybe there’s some big secret about Nathan coming back that no one will know until it happens…

Sorry, I went off into la-la land again. I really will miss that character.

However, now that I’ve had some time to think about it and separate myself from the emotions of that killer episode “I Do Over” I’ve realized that to bring Henry Deacon‘s character back to greatness, Nathan had to go.

Henry has been relegated to the background lately, because there just isn’t enough room in the show for three strong males. Of course Jack Carter can’t go away, and there’s too much animosity between Nathan and Jack for them to consistently find themselves working together to solve problems. Henry must return to Jack’s side because I love Jack but even I realize Jack needs intellectual assistance with some of the stuff that goes on in Eureka. It’s a town of geniuses, after all.

So, even though I’m going to really miss Nathan Stark, his absence might just make sense for the show. For now.

What could those titles mean?! Some season three episode titles are here.

I’ve posted the titles of several of the upcoming episodes of Eureka to the site. You can find them on the Season Three Episodes page. I love the titles and I can’t wait to see what kinds of episodes they represent!

Do you have any guesses for what they might mean? There’s Bad to the Drone, What About Bob, Best in Faux, I Do Over, and Show Me the Mummy.

I love speculation, so feel free to make wild and crazy guesses. As far as Eureka’s concerned, you never know what might turn out to be “true”!

My guesses? (And these are total guesses, so no spoiler alert is necessary.) I Do Over brings to mind weddings and time loops. What About Bob makes me wonder if a lunatic is loose in Eureka. Best in Faux — there has to be a dog in there somewhere. Show Me the Mummy must have a linen-wrapped dead guy in it. It must. Finally, Bad to the Drone has already been the beneficiary of my masterful speculation skills ;-) and you can revisit that post if you’d like.

A little speculation about the meaning of the Eureka season three premiere episode title Bad to the Drone.

Bad to the Drone. What an episode title! I’d love to be able to tell you what the title means, but I really don’t know. Maybe it’s about bees or something. Seriously, I don’t know the answer, so there can be no spoilers in this post, only speculation and supposition.

So what is a drone and how might this be used in Eureka’s season 3 premiere episode on Tuesday, July 29th? Let’s speculate!

A drone is…

···A stingless male bee in a colony of social bees (especially honeybees) whose sole function is to mate with the queen
···An unchanging intonation
···An aircraft without a pilot that is operated by remote control

Maybe Eureka is overcome by a colony of bees…

Maybe an unchanging intonation drives everyone to commit crimes…

Maybe a remote control aircraft terrorizes the town…

Maybe I’m just way to anxious for Bad to the Drone to make it to tv!
