Ex Machina, Episode 5.07
Eureka almost let me down last night. Almost, but not quite! If you saw the episode, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about, and if you didn’t, you should know that I’ll be spoiling the show left and right in about three…two…one…
Okay. Although this episode had fewer standout moments than the other episodes of season 5, it was still solid. I worried for a little while about Jo’s seeming irrational, over the top denial of the possibility that Holly existed in the matrix, but then Zane called her on her behavior, finally, and she sat down with Fargo and her explanation was just the right thing to make me sit up and say, "Now I get it!" while fitting perfectly with the backstory we’ve been given over the years about Jo and her family.
This episode had several moments that made me feel very hopeful for the future episodes of this final season. There were some throw away lines that hint that the writers are keeping the backstory and continuity of the show in mind as they move toward the end. I realize the show runners didn’t know the series would end with season 5 until most of these episodes were filmed, but they sure wrote as if they knew.
So, in the end, this was a great episode, with lots of hints of things to come, and it gives me hope that the past hasn’t been forgotten by anyone.
My favorite moment? The end, of course, when Henry gave Holly back to Fargo. Now, I just hope poor Fargo doesn’t end up with an entirely non-corporeal girlfriend forever. He deserves better, and Holly needs a body!
It could be a little weird for everyone but maybe she could share Andy’s for a while, while Fargo comes up with a new one for her? Am I nuts for even suggesting it…?
I just want to see a happy ending for these guys, so badly. :-)
