Spoiler alert! If you haven’t watched the mid-season premiere of Eureka tonight, you’ll want to skip reading this post, because I just watched it and I have a few things to say. First, it was great! I loved the episode, and if you’re a fan, you’re not going to want to miss it. Now, for the rest, you’ll need to keep reading…

After watching Welcome Back, Carter (the mid-season premiere of Eureka), I have to say I’m hoping to see Andy again, even if it’s just for one more episode some time down the road.

Welcome Back, Carter takes off where the series left off at mid-season: Carter out of a job and Allison pregnant.

But that’s okay, because he’s just been replaced—by a robot. Sheriff Andy, to be precise, who has a southern accent and an aw-shucks manner that I was sure would turn out to be an act.

I turned out to be wrong, and that’s one of the lovely things about this episode. I expected the usual bad-guy-takes-over-and-Carter-has-to-prove-it-and-save-the-day. But that’s not what happened at all.

Andy was a funny, great guy and I really, really hated to see him go at the end. This is one character I would love to see more of—then again, he might just give Carter a run for his money when it comes to charming the viewers. Andy stole the show!

Welcome Back, Carter—a new EurekaFan favorite!

I really enjoyed this season opener…I felt the show stumbled when they took Henry’s character down a dark road. One of my favorite relationships on the show is the friendship between Jack and Henry.

I’ll miss Nathan Stark. He was like the older brother to Jack…you know the one that can’t help but constantly tease you. Underlying their relationship was a respect for each other. The writers really do a good job with building these relationships…they need to stop breaking them.

This season opener really had some interesting clues to the sub-plot. At the end Henry tells Alison about some deep space interference that is affecting all the communications. “We don’t have anything that far out…” What is coming?

There are some earlier clues in the episode as well. Sheriff Andy had his finger in the electronics for one of the dishes…he said he needed to run a diagnostic on the security system because something was interfering with it.

Something is coming…communications and security are already being affected. Should be interesting if they handle it right.

Chris, you’re so right about the Henry and Carter friendship being so important to the dynamics of the show. I think they did the smart thing by making it turn out that Henry had some secondary ulterior motives for why he did what he did during that time. I’ll miss Stark because of the friction between him and Jack. That friction was a nice contrast to all the great friendships between Carter and most of the other characters on the show.

Like you, I caught the stuff about the something that’s coming… I am waiting with bated breath to discover what that might be, but as a die-hard speculator, I’m seeing aliens or alien technology in the future of Eureka! Ever watch UFO Hunters? (For entertainment purposes only, of course :) They’ve discussed several times the likelihood that aliens would monitor our most advanced facilities and that those would be the places where aliens might try to make contact…

It’ll be interesting if this is a new arc for the rest of the third season episodes.

Hey, no apologies for watching UFO Hunters…great show!

I have no idea how they will progress with this idea if it is indeed aliens…I’ll just trust it won’t be cheesy because they do such fantastic work on this show.

Sheriff Andy was actually a very likable character. I wonder if they bring him back as a deputy…could be a cool balance with Lupo, even a healthy tension between them.

I am so glad I can still like this show…no shark jumping, yet!

Agreed! There are still many good years left in Eureka. :) Andy shows how good the Eureka writers are at building a two-dimensional character in a single episode. It was great work on their part!
