Background
Jack Carter came to Eureka by way of a car accident. While transporting his daughter (as a prisoner) back to Los Angeles from Seattle, they see a duplicate of themselves driving in the opposite direction. When he turns back to the wheel, a dog has appeared in the middle of the road. Jack swerves and loses control of the car.
At first, Jack isn't suspicious of the odd townsfolk of Eureka, but as incidents pile up, he becomes aware that something is different about this town and its people.
His {unwanted} assistance helps solve a dire mystery in Eureka and local sheriff Bill Cobb and Department of Defense agent Allison Blake are grateful for his help. When Cobb chooses to retire, Jack Carter becomes the town sheriff. The rest of the story is EUReKA.
